Frequently Asked Questions

Who should participate?  All players in the U5-U10 players are encouraged to participate in the academy.  The only requirement is that they are willing to commit the time to become a better player and to enjoy the game.  At these age groups it is difficult to identify who will become the next great player in the area or country so it is important that all players are given the chance to participate with great coaches in great training and game environments.

To play with CFU do players have to join the Academy Program?  No!  Players in the U7 - U10 age groups do not have to join the Academy Program.  Those players may choose to play in the traditional model registered to a team for the season which will play in a regular league or they may register to the Academy Program.  Players, parents and coaches have the choice of which model they wish to participate in.  The Academy Program model is a great addition to the already wonderful programs that CFU currently offers.

Will this benefit the more advanced player at the U5-U10 age groups? Yes! All players will be challenged to their fullest in this program.  This will be accomplished through the grouping of players as well as using training games that are about the individual and not always about the “team”.

Will the training be too much for new players entering the game? New players to soccer or those who have just not caught on yet will not be left behind.  Just as we do for the more experienced players, we will use appropriate grouping as well as training games that are about the individual and not always about the “team”.

Are there no set teams?  There are no teams in the traditional sense.  Each week players will train with groups that will help them develop certain skills and abilities.  On game day, they will play as a team and do their best to outscore the other team but not to the detriment of player development.  Players will be required to use the skills and concepts worked on at training to achieve those goals.  As players get older, the traditional team will become more important, but Academy players will have had years more focus and elite training to help them at that point in their career.

How do I register?  Stop by the office or mail in the registration form with the appropriate fees, and your space will be saved.
