Florida Youth Soccer Association excited to partner with the Florida Sports Foundation and Central Florida united to present the 2008 Sunshine State Games Academy Soccer Festival in Oviedo...

Youth players from across the state of Florida will be participating in the Festival!!!

May 8, 2008: The Florida Youth Soccer Association (FYSA) and Florida Sports Foundation have jointly announced they have signed an agreement to present the 2008 Sunshine State Games Academy Soccer Festival on May 10, 2008 in Oviedo, Florida at Shane Kelly Park from 8:30 a.m. until 6:30 p.m. The Academy Soccer Festival will feature age-appropriate competition for over 200 boys and girls ages 8 to 10. This pilot program features different formats of play and teams were invited by FYSA for this inaugural Festival. This is the first time the FYSA and Florida Sports Foundation have partnered together to bring a soccer event to the State of Florida.

"We are pleased to be associated with the Sunshine State Games. Our commitment to pilot the Inaugural Academy Soccer Festival will create an opportunity for our organizations to design an effective format to provide youth with age-appropriate activities. It is our privilege to serve the State in the capacity of soccer-related support," said Ed Thiebe, Executive Director of FYSA.

"In an effort to promote and develop amateur sports opportunities for Floridians, the Florida Sports Foundation continually seeks partners like the Florida Youth Soccer Association," said Stephen Rodriguez, Director of Amateur Sports for the FSF. "Our partnership with FYSA and The Academy Soccer Festival is an exciting new opportunity to showcase youth soccer in the State of Florida."

The Florida Sports Foundation (FSF) is the official sports promotion and development organization of the state of Florida. Its goal is to promote and develop professional, amateur and participatory sports for the citizens of Florida and attract out-of-state visitors through sports, thus creating new economic development.

One of the FSF’s programs is the Sunshine State Games which offers affordable competition for all of Florida’s amateur athletes. Whether you are seeking Olympic Gold or are a weekend warrior, the Sunshine State Games is the place to showcase your talent.

Central Florida United Soccer Club is pleased to welcome the following clubs to this wonderful event:

A Day with Dax...
Dax McCarty Gives Back to CFU!!!
Former Central Florida United Soccer Club player Dax McCarty generously made time to come out and meet the CFU Nitro U12 Boys Premier team last month.  Dax had just finished playing for the United States Men’s Olympic Qualifying Team, in which he was named to the Best XI and help the team earn a trip to the 2008 Summer games in Beijing, China.  Nitro Head coach Mike McAvoy stated, "Dax was only in town for a couple days before he had to report to his Major League Soccer Club, FC Dallas, for him to give up time with his family and come out and speak to my players and watch them play shows the class at which he has always displayed.  As you can see by their faces, these youngsters were awestruck by meeting a player they have watched on television for the past two years.  It is so nice to know that the youth of today have a person like Dax that they can look up to... he is a tremendous role-model".  The Nitro wish Dax all the best and want to say a big THANKS for posing for pictures and signing autographs during this special opportunity!!!
